![]() Prior to patching we suggest verifying these accounts work correctly, recovering the passwords if needed (which sometimes takes a restart of vCenter Server), and then changing them after the work is done as a good security practice. By default, the VCSA root account locks itself after 90 days, which may be an unwanted surprise if you need it in an emergency. Ensure that your organization has the vCenter Server Appliance (VCSA) root & account passwords stored correctly and are not locked out.Taking the time to explain this to others, like change managers, risk assessors, and managers, can pay dividends in getting patching approved. However, other people in your organization may not know this. vSphere Administrators understand that patching vCenter Server doesn't impact workloads, and that vMotion will move workloads seamlessly so that ESXi can be patched.
